About

Just keeping a diary, retrospectively as it were. Had I known nine years ago that my little issues with pah, a thyroid problem, were going to rock on down the years, I’d have started it sooner. I hate to admit it but I was that woman who scoffed at other’s weight problems and secretly blamed them for over eating, and self delusion.

Oh hubris.

    • Yes sure Sophie. You can ring me tomorrow or Monday morning. 0141 632 8757

      • hi i was hoping to talk to you (ms lorraine cleaver) about my struggles w/an underactive thyroid. nothing’s showing up on labs and even if they did the endo’s pass it off to the psychs and vice versa until ppl can find out where to put my i’m in limbo and getting worse by the second. i have suicidal thoughts bc it’s effecting the neuro transmitters more specifically dopamine and serotonin.

unfortunately i live in the u.s. even worse than that i live in oklahoma. slow backwards narrow-minded. and that trinkles down to medicine. no ones helping me. i sent several messages to functional medicine dr.’s no response.

do you think you can help or at least know someone who can? otherwise as soon as i get enough money i’m getting a gun. it’s at that point. it’s been at that point. thx

      • I’m so sorry you’ve been brought so low too. I’m in the UK so not sure who is any help out in Oklahoma but maybe if you email me with a bit more detail I can have a think about who best to suggest? lorrainecleaver7@gmail.com

I came across your story on Hypothyroid mum and can completely relate to the depths to which you plummeted physically and emotionally and greatly admire the campaigning you are doing. I’m also based in GLasgow and struggling with thyroid problem and Just wondered if there is anyway I can send you a private message? Wouldn’t take up much of your time just a quick question I wanted to ask.

    Many thanks
    Christine

I’m based in GLasgow too and really struggling with a thyroid issue and just wondered if there is anyway to private message you? I wouldn’t take up too much of your time just wanted to ask you a quick question.

    Hi Lorraine,
I’m Catherine, 45 from Northern Ireland.
I have secondary hypothyroidism which was diagnosed in 1996, a few months after the birth of my fourth child. The birth was horrendous and @2cms dilated, with a prolapsed cord, the consultant manually intervened as no theatres were free. He delivered my baby 10 minutes later via vacuum delivery. Then, during the night, I suffered a huge postpartum bleed which went unnoticed by the staff.
Consequently, my pituitary gland stopped working.
Eventually it kicked in again, all except for TSH. I was prescribed thyroxine ever since and it’s been up and down. I also was prescribed Prozac around the same time.
I have more or less been or antidepressants ever since. I was particularly depressed and actually suicidal on a number of occasions.
I have had some strange blood results over the past year. My TSH has been high and my T4 is also high.
I’m now trying to find out what exactly is going on inside my head.
I feel that I’m losing my mind. I’m turning into a very angry person. I’m defensive, I’ve no filter, I’m gaining weight by the day, I sleep around the clock, my body aches so badly and the medication I’m on is absolutely disgraceful.
I actually think that my thyroid is the culprit in all this.
I’ve asked my nurse for a T3 test and yet my TSH and T4 only come back.
My endocrinologist checked me over, and again no T3 is mentioned.
Really what I want to know is, is there a book I can buy or anyone I can contact to get my life back. I’ve wasted so long feeling so ill and I want my life back.
Thank you for taking the time to read my post.

Hello Lorraine I saw the STV news Thu 29 march as amazed by your campaign on thyroid probs. Since being diagnosed 6 yrs ago am having a bit of a hard time, am sure life needn’t be so difficult. I saw some ref to a support group run ‘from a shed’, I am convinced the meds prescribed are adding to ill health, it would be great to learn more particularly about your petition. Vivienne
